Enterprise is a city located in both Coffee and Dale Counties, and according to an official US Census Bureau estimate conducted in 2006 the population of the city was over 23,000. Enterprise is the city associated with Fort Rucker, which is an army base known for being the home of Army Aviation. It is a principal city of the Ozark-Enterprise Micropolitan Statistical Area, which in turn is a member of the Enterprise-Ozark-Dothan Combined Statistical Area.
During the summer months, average daily temperatures in the city hit around 92 degrees or so, with lows typically dropping down to around 68 degrees or so overnight. During the winter months, however, average temperatures hit around 60 degrees or so during the day, with lows often dropping down to around 38 degrees overnight.
The area that became Enterprise was first settled by Europeans in 1881 and was incorporated as a city in 1896, despite a population of just 250 residents. Enterprise, despite the name, grew on the back of the agricultural industry until most of the crops were destroyed by boll weevils in the early 20th century. Today the city’s economy is now based primarily on peanuts.
