Hoover is a suburb of the city of Birmingham and is actually located in two separate counties – Jefferson and Shelby. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 62,000, and it is currently a part of the Birmingham-Hoover-Cullman Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of over one million residents.

The city was incorporated as a city in 1967 and was named after a local insurance company owner, not the dam that many people mistake it for. The Hoover area, however, has been around since the early 1930’s, though the city grew slowly until the I-65 interchange was built near the city in the 1950’s. The interchange brought many new residents and new businesses to the area and it expanded rapidly. Today, the city’s economy is still growing, with an emphasis on service-oriented jobs.

During the summer months temperatures in the city typically hit around 85 degrees or so during the day, with lows often dropping down to around 50 degrees or so overnight.
