Ozark, Alabama is a city located wholly within Dale County; it is also the county seat. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 15,000, and it is currently the principal city of the Ozark-Enterprise Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Dale County. It is also part of the Dothan-Enterprise-Ozark Combined Statistical Area.
The area that is now known as Ozark was originally settled by Creek Indians, though John Merrick, a veteran of the American Revolution, was the first European to settle in the area. The name Ozark was chosen in 1855; the city was originally known as Merricks, though it was changed to Woodshop not long afterwards and again to Ozark in 1855.
During the summer months average daily high temperatures in the city hit around 93 degrees or so, with overnight lows dropping down to an average of 62 degrees. During the winter months, however, average daily highs hit around 56 degrees or so during the day and lows typically drop to around 40 degrees overnight.
