Delaware is the second smallest state in the United States, it is located on the east coast bordered by Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Delaware became the first state in the United States when it was ratified in to the Constitution on December, 7 1787. It has been given the nickname the “Diamond State”, legend says this comes from Thomas Jefferson calling it a “jewel” due to its location among the nearby states. Delaware is also the lowest state in the U.S. with an average altitude of just 60 feet above sea level. Due to the size of the state, there are just three counties in the whole state. The city of Dover is the state capital.
Why visit Delaware? There is a large historical significance of this state, not only because it was the first state to be ratified into the Constitution but also because of it’s role during the Revolutionary War.
